Smiles for Kids grant program looks to create even more smiles for local nonprofits

RALEIGH, N.C., (May 30, 2012) — The Delta Dental Foundation is currently seeking applications from nonprofit organizations to help fund dental education initiatives and programs designed to promote children’s oral health, especially to those in underserved areas.

The Smiles for Kids program, which was launched last year, looks to award up to $25,000 in grants annually.

“Our first year of the program was a tremendous success,” said Curt Ladig, president and chief executive officer of Delta Dental of North Carolina. “Six well-deserving organizations received the essential funding they needed to help educate and improve the oral health of children here in our state. Since tooth decay tops the list in childhood chronic diseases, we fully understand the need that exists out there and look forward to receiving this year’s applications.”

Submission guidelines for grants include the following:

• Individual requests are limited to a maximum of $5,000.
• Grants must be dedicated to local, not-for-profit programs designed to promote children’s oral health. Programs of particular interest are those designed to promote/improve oral health of underserved children.
• Only one proposal per organization per year will be considered.

Upon submission, Delta Dental will evaluate each application based on factors such as the program’s focus on children, potential value to the community, measurable results and the level of local community support it attracts.

The foundation is currently accepting grant requests with a submission deadline of August 6, 2012. Winners will be notified at the end of the year.
