Delta Dental's statement on the Supreme Court's ruling of the Affordable Care Act
6/28/2012
The following is a statement from Curt Ladig, President and Chief Executive Officer of Delta Dental of North Carolina:
June 28, 2012
“The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling today means that by the year 2014 individuals and employees of small businesses will have new opportunities to shop for medical and dental benefits on state and federally-facilitated exchanges. As a leading provider of dental benefits in North Carolina, Delta Dental urges exchange developers to protect consumers’ rights to keep their own dentist, to keep their current dental coverage, and to comparatively shop for all of their dental benefit options.
In order to accomplish this, Delta Dental believes:
- Dental benefits must be offered and priced separately from medical benefits on exchanges. Doing so will allow purchasers to better compare products, premium, and quality, while also promoting transparency and competition.
- Children’s dental benefits purchased in the private marketplace (outside exchanges) should be allowed to fulfill the Affordable Care Act’s essential health benefits requirement.
As the Affordable Care Act implementation moves forward at the federal and state levels, Delta Dental remains committed to its mission of improving the oral health of all Americans. We will continue to pursue this mission by providing affordable benefit plans.”
